A king, accompanied by a small group of his close companions (ministers, commanders, and servants), was in a hunting area. They had traveled some distance from the palace. It was winter, and as night fell, they saw a farmer’s house.
The king said, “Let’s go to that house tonight so we don’t have to endure the winter cold.”
One of his ministers said, “It’s not befitting a king to seek refuge in a farmer’s house. Here, we will pitch a tent and light a fire (to keep ourselves warm during the night and to deter the animals, who are afraid of fire).”
The farmer, aware of the king and his entourage’s presence near his home, prepared what food he could and offered it to the king and his companions. He kissed the ground in the king’s presence and said, “I am honored.” The Sultan did not descend, but they (your ministers) did not want the peasant’s status to rise (by serving the king).
The Sultan was impressed by the peasant’s words, so he went to the peasant’s house in the evening.
In the morning, the Sultan ordered that the peasant be showered with gifts, and they heard that the peasant was walking alongside the Sultan’s procession, saying:
The Sultan’s status and power were not diminished in the slightest
When he became a guest in a peasant’s house,
while the peasant’s status rose
When you bestowed your care upon him, for you are the Sultan.
(He who humbles himself before others, God will raise his status among them.)
Arabic Translation
كانَ أحد المُلوك مع عددٍ قليل من خاصتهٍ (رُفقاء الملك المُقربين، من وزراء وقادة وخدم) في منطقةِ صيدٍ معينةٍ، فأبتعدوا مسافةٍ عن القصرِ، وكان الموسم/الفصل شتاءاً، حتى حلَ الليلُ، فرأوا مَنزل فلاحٍ
فقال الملك: نَذهب إلى ذلك البيتِ (هناك) ليلاً حتى لا يزاحمنا برد الشتاءِ (نحتمي في ذلك البيت من برودة اجواء الشتاء ليلاً)
قالَ أحدُ الوزراءِ: لا يليقُ بَقدر الملكِ أن يلتجأ إلى منزلِ فلاحٍ، هاهنا سننصبُ خَيمةٌ ونُشعل ناراً (*لتدفئتنا من البرد اثناء الليل، ومنع الحيوانات من الاقترابِ لأنها تَخاف النار)
فعَلِمَ الفَلاح (*عَلِمَ بوجود الملكِ وحاشيته بالقربِ من بيتهِ)، فأعدَ ما أستطاع تحضيره من طعامٍ، وقَدمهُ للملك وحاشيتهِ، وقبل الأرض عند حَضرة الملكِ، وقال: قدر السلطانُ العالي لم ينزل، ولكنهم (حاشيتكَ من الوزراءِ) لم يريدوا أن يَرتفع قَدر الفلاحِ (بخدمةِ الملكِ)
أُعجب السُلطان بكلام الفلاح، فأنتقل إلى منزل الفلاح عند المساءِ
في الصباحِ أمرَ السلطانُ باغداق النِعم على الفلاحِ، وسمعوا بأن الفلاح كان يمشى بخطواتٍ إلى جانب موكبِ السُلطانِ وكان يقول
من قَدرِ السُلطانِ وسُلطتهِ لم ينقص من شيءٍ
عندما حلَ ضيفاً في بيت فلاحٍ
بينما أرتفع شأن الفلاحِ
عندما أغدقتَ عليهِ رعايتك لأنكَ أنتَ السُلطان
(من تواضع للأخرين، فأن ألله سوف يَرفع من قَدره بينهم)

یکی از ملوک با تنی چند خاصان در شکارگاهی به زمستان از عمارت دور افتادند، تا شب درآمد، خانهٔ دهقانی دیدند
مَلِک گفت: شب آنجا رَویم تا زحمتِ سرما نباشد
یکی از وزرا گفت: لایقِ قدرِ پادشاه نیست به خانهٔ دهقانی اِلْتِجا کردن، هم اینجا خیمه زنیم و آتش کنیم
دهقان را خبر شد، ماحَضَری ترتیب کرد و پیش آورد و زمین ببوسید و گفت: قدرِ بلندِ سلطان نازل نشدی ولیکن نخواستند که قدرِ دهقان بلند گردد
سلطان را سخن گفتنِ او مطبوع آمد، شبانگاه به منزلِ او نَقل کردند
بامدادانش خِلْعَت و نعمت فرمود، شنیدندش که قدمی چند در رکابِ سلطان همیرفت و میگفت
ز قدر و شوکتِ سلطان نگشت چیزی کم
از التفات به مهمانسرایِ دهقانی
کلاهگوشهٔ دهقان به آفتاب رسید
که سایه بر سرش انداخت چون تو سلطانی
