Do not be surprised by the silence of the wise amidst the rabble; for the melody of the oud is lost in the clamor of drums, and the fragrance of amber is drowned out by the stench of garlic.
The ignorant one with the loud raises his voice
shamelessly before the wise and the learned.
For this ignorant, does not realize that the Hijazi melody
is drowned out by the loud drum during war.
In other words,
The words of scholars and people of knowledge are ignored and become less valuable and effective in the face of the nonsense of the ignorant and unwise, or their voices go nowhere, because knowledge and wisdom vanish in the face of the noise of the ignorant.
Arabic Translation
لا تعجبْ لصمتِ عاقلٍ وسطَ الغوغاء؛ فلحنُ العودِ لا يُسمعُ مع صخبِ الطبولِ، وأريجُ العنبرِ يغلبهُ نَتَنُ الثومِ
الجاهل ذو الصوت العالي يرفع من صوته ِ
بدون حياء أمام الحكيم والعالِم
فلا يعلم هذا الجاهل بأن اللحن الحِجازي
يتغلب عليه صوت الطبل العالي اثناء الحرب
بعبارة أخرى
أن كلمات العلماء وأهل المعرفة تُتَجاهل وتُصبح أقل قيمة وفعالية في مواجهة هراء الجاهلين وغير الحكماء، أو أن أصواتهم لا تصل إلى أي مكان، لأن المَعرفة والحَكمة تتلاشى في مواجهة ضجيج الجاهلين

خردمندی را که در زمرهٔ اجلاف سخن ببندد شگفت مدار، که آواز بربط با غلبهٔ دهل بر نیاید و بوی عنبر از گند سیر فرو ماند
بلند آواز نادان گردن افراخت
که دانا را به بیشرمی بینداخت
نمیداند که آهنگ حجازی
فرو ماند ز بانگ طبل غازی
