It is told that there was a man who was highly skilled in the art of wrestling, knowing three hundred and sixty distinct wrestling techniques. Every day he would wrestle in a different way. However, he harbored an affection for one of his students, a handsome young man, and so he taught him three hundred and fifty-nine wrestling techniques, withholding only one of the techniques he himself knew (the one the professional wrestler was most skilled in).
In total, the young man reached a great level of strength and skill in wrestling, so much so that no one in his time could wrestle and defeat him. He even said before the king of that time: “My teacher’s favor upon me is great, and he raised me in a proper and righteous manner, but I am no less strong than him, and I am his equal in skill (in the art of wrestling).” The king was displeased by this statement and ordered that they (the young man and his now elderly teacher) should wrestle.
A large arena was prepared, and the dignitaries of the state, the nobles of the royal court, and champions (of various sports) gathered there. The young man entered like a proud elephant, with a powerful attack; if there had been a mountain of copper before him, he would have uprooted it from its place.
The elderly teacher knew that the young man was physically stronger than him, so he used that unique grip (in the art of wrestling) that he had kept hidden from him (and had not taught him during their training together). The young man did not know how to overcome it, and they grappled together.
The teacher lifted him from the ground above his head. Then he threw him to the ground, and cries of astonishment rose from the people.
The king ordered a robe of honor (gifts) and a reward for the master, and punished the young man, reproaching him for claiming to be as strong as his teacher, but he did not succeed. The young man said: “O King of the land! He did not defeat me by strength, but by a subtle technique (one of the hidden arts of wrestling) that he had withheld from me my whole life, and he defeated me with it today.”
The master said: “I saved it for this very day; for the wise have said: Do not give a friend a power with which he can become an enemy. Have you not heard the saying of one who experienced ingratitude from the person who raised him (in his youth and bestowed favors upon him)?
Either there is no loyalty in this world itself,
or there is no loyalty from anyone in this time.
I do not teach anyone how to shoot an arrow
so that I will not ultimately become the target of that arrow.”

يُحكى أنه كان هناك رجلٌ ماهرٌ في فن المصارعة، يتقن ثلاثمائة وستين تقنيةً مُختلفةً. كان يُصارع كل يومٍ بطريقةٍ مُختلفة. إلا أنه كان يُكنّ عاطفةً لأحد تلاميذه، شابٍّ وسيم، فعلّمه ثلاثمائة وتسعةً وخمسين تقنيةً، مُبقيًا تقنيةً واحدةً فقط من التقنيات التي يعرفها هو (وهي التقنية التي كان المصارع المحترف أمهرها)
بلغ الشاب في المجمل مستوىً عظيمًا من القوة والمهارة في المصارعة، لدرجة أنه لم يستطع أحدٌ في عصره مُصارعته وهزيمته. حتى أنه قال أمام ملك ذلك الزمان: “إنّ فضلَ مُعلّمي عليّ عظيم، وقد ربّاني تربيةً صالحةً، لكنني لستُ أقلّ منه قوةً، وأنا مُساوٍ له في المهارة (في فن المصارعة)”، استاء الملك من هذا الكلام، وأمر أن يُصارعا (الشاب ومُعلّمه المُسنّ الآن) معًا
أُعدّت حلبةٌ واسعة، وتجمع فيها أعيان الدولة، ونبلاء البلاط الملكي، وأبطال (مختلف الرياضات). دخل الشاب كالفيل المُعتز، مُهاجمًا هجومًا قويًا؛ لو كان أمامه جبلٌ من النحاس لاقتلعه من مكانه
كان المُعلّم المُسنّ يعلم أن الشاب أقوى منه جسديًا، فاستخدم تلك القبضة الفريدة (في فن المصارعة) التي أخفاها عنه (ولم يُعلّمه إياها خلال تدريبهما معًا). لم يعرف الشاب كيف يتغلب عليها، فتصارعا معًا.
رفعه المُعلّم عن الأرض فوق رأسه، ثم رماه أرضًا، فارتفعت صيحات الدهشة من الناس
أمر الملك بهدايا ومكافأة للمُعلّم، وعاقب الشاب، مُعاتبًا إياه على ادعائه أنه بقوة مُعلّمه، لكنه لم يُفلح، قال الشاب: “يا ملك البلاد! لم يهزمني بالقوة، بل بحيلة خفية (من فنون المصارعة الخفية) حجبها عني طوال حياتي، وهزمني بها اليوم
قال المعلم: “ادخرتها لهذا اليوم بالذات؛ فقد قال الحكماء: لا تمنح صديقًا قوةً تجعله عدوًا، ألم تسمع قول من عانى من جحود من ربّاه (في شبابه وأنعم عليه)؟
إما أنه لا يوجد وفاء في هذه الدنيا
أو أنه لا يوجد وفاء من أحدٍ في هذا الزمان
لا أُعلّم أحدًا رمي السَهمِ
حتى لا أُصاب به في النهاية

یکی در صنعتِ کُشتی گرفتن سرآمده بود، سیصد و شصت بندِ فاخر بدانستی و هر روز به نوعی از آن کُشتی گرفتی، مگر گوشهٔ خاطرش با جمالِ یکی از شاگردان میلی داشت، سیصد و پنجاه و نُه بندش درآموخت مگر یک بند که در تعلیمِ آن دفع انداختی و تأخیر کردی
فیالجمله پسر در قوّت و صنعت سر آمد و کسی را در زمانِ او با او امکانِ مقاومت نبود تا به حدّی که پیشِ مَلِکِ آن روزگار گفته بود: استاد را فضیلتی که بر من است از رویِ بزرگیست و حقِّ تربیت؛ وگرنه به قوّت از او کمتر نیستم و به صنعت با او برابرم، مَلِک را این سخن دُشْخوار آمد، فرمود تا مُصارعت کنند.
مقامی مُتَّسِع ترتیب کردند و ارکانِ دولت و اعیانِ حضرت و زورآورانِ رویِ زمین حاضر شدند، پسر چون پیلِ مست اندرآمد به صَدمَتی که اگر کوهِ رویین بودی از جای برکندی، استاد دانست که جوان به قوّت از او برتر است؛ بدان بندِ غریب که از وی نهان داشته بود، با او درآویخت، پسر دفعِ آن ندانست، به هم برآمد
استاد به دو دست از زمینش بالایِ سَر برد و فروکوفت، غریو از خلق برخاست، ملک فرمود استاد را خلعت و نعمت دادن و پسر را زجر و ملامت کرد که با پرورندهٔ خویش دعویِ مقاومت کردی و به سر نبردی، گفت: ای پادشاهِ روی زمین! به زورآوری بر من دست نیافت بلکه مرا از علمِ کُشتی دقیقهای مانده بود و همه عمر از من دریغ همی داشت، امروز بدان دقیقه بر من غالب آمد
گفت: از بهرِ چنین روزی؛ که زیرکان گفتهاند: دوست را چندان قوّت مده که دشمنی کند تواند، نشنیدهای که چه گفت آن که از پروردهٔ خویش جفا دید؟
یا وفا خود نبود در عالَم
یا مگر کس در این زمانه نکرد
کس نیاموخت علمِ تیر از من
که مرا عاقبت نشانه نکرد
