Several of Sultan Mahmud’s servants asked Hasan Maymandi: “What did the Sultan say to you today regarding the matter of so-and-so?” He replied, “Did you hear anything yourselves?” They said, “What he told you, is it not fit to be shared with the likes of us?”
He answered them firmly: “The Sultan trusts that I will not disclose his words, so why do you ask?”
Not every word spoken is meant to be relayed by the knowledgeable; One must not gamble with the private secrets of the King.
Arabic Translation
عِدةٍ من عَبيد مَحمود قالوا لحسن ميمندي (أبو أحد الوزراء يدعى أحمد حسن ميمندي) السُلطان اليوم ماذا قال لك عن قضية فلانٍ؟ فقال: هل سمعتم شيئا؟، فقالوا: ماذا قال لك، الا يجوز التحدث به لأمثالنا؟
فرد عليهم: بثقةٍ، السُلطان يَعرف بأنني لن أتحدث بشيء، فلماذا تسألون؟
ليسَ كُل حديث يَصدرُ، ينقلونه أهل المعرفةِ
فلا ينبغي المُخاطرة باسرار الملكِ الشخصية

تنی چند از بندگانِ محمود گفتند حسنِ میمندی را که: سلطان امروز تو را چه گفت در فلان مصلحت؟ گفت: بر شما هم پوشیده نباشد. گفتند: آنچه با تو گوید، به امثالِ ما گفتن روا ندارد. گفت: به اعتمادِ آن که داند که نگویم، پس چرا همیپرسید؟
نه هر سخن که برآید، بگوید اهلِ شناخت
به سرِّ شاه سر خویشتن نشاید باخت
