Not everyone who is handsome necessarily has a good character, true virtue (goodness/value) lies within a person, not in their outward appearance.
You can learn a man’s virtues in a single day,
and how far he has progressed in his learning and knowledge.
But beware of trusting his inner self or being arrogant in thinking you know all his virtues, for the evil of the soul (the inner self) is only revealed after years.
The deeper meaning
Outward handsomeness is merely a facade. Knowledge and intelligence can be discovered in a single day of conversation, but the “malice of the soul” or “inner evil” is a buried mine that only explodes after years of companionship and trial. True virtue lies “beneath the skin/body/physical form,” not above/outwardly.
Arabic Translation
ليسَ كُل مَن هو حَسنَ الوَجهِ، بالضرورة له سِيرة حَسنة، الحُسن (الفضل/القيمة) في باطن الإنسان، لا مَظهره (جلده)
تَستطيع التَعرف في يومٍ واحدٍ على فضائل الرَجل
وإلى أي مدى وصل في التعلم والعلِم
لكن، حذار من أن تأمن باطنهِ أو تكن مَغروراً بأنك عرفت كل فضائلهِ
فَشرُ النَفسِ (الباطن)، لا يُعرف الا بسنواتٍ
المعنى العميق: الوسامة الخارجية هي مجرد غلاف، العلم والذكاء يمكن اكتشافهما في يوم واحد من الحوار، لكن “خُبث النفس” أو “شر الباطن” لغمٌ مدفون لا ينفجر إلا بعد سنوات من العشرة والابتلاء، الفضل الحقيقي هو ما “تحت الجلد/الجسم/البدن” لا ما فوقه/ظاهره

توان شناخت به یک روز در شمایل مرد
که تا کجاش رسیدهست پایگاه علوم
ولی ز باطنش ایمن مباش و غره مشو
که خبث نفس نگردد به سالها معلوم
