A king took his son to a teacher (a scholar who teaches him manners, wisdom, and religion), and said to the scholar: Consider this son of mine as your son; Raise him as you would raise one of your own sons.
The scholar gladly accepted the king’s request and dedicated many years to his education. However, he was unable to teach the king’s son, while the scholar’s own sons reached the pinnacle of excellence and eloquence.
Upon learning these details, the king rebuked the scholar, accusing him of breaking his promise to raise the king’s son as his own.
The scholar replied: “It is not hidden from the sultan that the upbringing was equal, but the temperaments differed.”
Although silver and gold both come from stones (they are extracted from the rock and the earth), you cannot find silver or gold (or both) in every stone.
The star Canopus shines everywhere in the world (a star in the sky, for every place it has its own meaning, a specific interpretation, and it corresponds to a specific occasion in each part)
In one place it indicates the ripening of dates, and in another, the tanning of leather.
Arabic Translation
قادَ مَلكٌ ابنهُ لأديبٍ (مُعلم يعلمه الأداب والحكمة والدين)، وقال للأديب : أعتبر ابني هذا هو ابنك؛ ربِّهِ كما تُربي أحد أبنائكَ
قبل الأديب طلب الملكِ بكل سرورٍ، فسعى لسنواتٍ عدة في تعليمهِ، لكنهُ لم يَستطع تَعليم ابن الملكِ، بينما وَصل أبناء المُعلمِ الأديبِ إلى قِمةِ الفَضلِ والبلاغةِ
الملك بعد معرفتهِ التفاصيل السابقة، قام بتوبيخ العالِمِ، وعاتبهُ بأنكَ أخلفتَ وعدكَ لي، عندما قبلت تربية ابني كأبناءكَ، ولم تفِ بوعدكَ
فقال المُعلمُ: لا يُخفى على مقامِ السُلطانِ بأن التربية كانت مُتساويةٌ، ولكن الطبائعَ كانت مُختلفةٌ
رُغم أنَ الفَضةَ والذهبِ كِلاهما من الحجارةِ (يأتيان بعد التنقيب في الحجر و باطن الأرض)
لايُمكن أن تَجد في كلِ حَجرٍ فِضةً أو ذَهباً (أو كلاهما معاً)
يُضيء نَجم سِهيل في كل مكان من العالمِ (نجم السماء، لكل مكان له تفسير معين، ويتناسب مع مناسبة معينة في كل جزء)
في مكانٍ يدل على نُضجِ التَمر، وفي مكان آخر لدبغ الجلودِ

پادشاهی پسری را به ادیبی داد و گفت: این فرزند توست، تربیتش همچنان کن که یکی از فرزندان خویش
ادیب خدمت کرد و متقبل شد و سالی چند بر او سعی کرد و به جایی نرسید و پسران ادیب در فضل و بلاغت منتهی شدند
ملک دانشمند را مؤاخذت کرد و معاتبت فرمود که وعده خلاف کردی و وفا به جا نیاوردی
گفت: بر رای خداوند روی زمین پوشیده نماند که تربیت یکسان است و طباع مختلف
گرچه سیم و زر ز سنگ آید همی
در همه سنگی نباشد زر و سیم
بر همه عالم همیتابد سهیل
جایی انبان میکند جایی ادیم
