I complained to a sheikh that so-and-so had testified against me, accusing me of corruption (testifying before a group of people that I was corrupt, religiously or morally)
The sheikh replied: “Shame him with your righteousness
(let the accuser or witness be ashamed of himself for this statement in front of others, by improving yourself, both internally and externally, in word and deed)
Be of good character so as not to give the accuser (the one who harbors ill thoughts about others) any opportunity to find fault within you and speak of it
(Instead of responding with words, insults, or defending yourself, the best response is to be in the best possible state, exhibiting the highest degree of righteousness, integrity, and goodness. This very righteousness will make him ashamed of his attack on you and embarrass him before others and himself.)
If the sound of the oud (the sound produced by plucking the strings of an old Iranian instrument similar to the oud) is beautiful and clear, can the singer find any fault with it? (Unless the singer’s voice is inherently bad, which is always the case with the envious and spiteful person; they see fault in everything about others.)
Arabic Translation
شكوتُ إلى أحدِ المشايخِ من أن فلاناً شَهدَ عليّ بالفساد (شهد أمام مجموعة من الناس بأني شخص فاسد، دينيا أو أخلاقياً)
فرد الشيخ: أخجلهُ بصلاحكَ (دع الشخص الواشي أو الشاهد يخجل من نفسه بسبب هذا الكلام أمام الناس، من خلال إصلاح نفسكَ، داخليا وخارجيا، قولاً وعملاً)
كُن حَسنَ السيرةِ حتى لا تُعطي أي مَجالٍ
ليجد الواشي (الشخص سيء الظن بالناس) عيباً فيكَ ليتحدث به
بدل من أن تردّ عليه بالكلام أو السباب أو الدفاع عن نفسك، أفضل ردّ هو أن تكون أنت في أحسن حال وأعلى درجة من الصلاح والاستقامة والإحسان، فهذا الصلاح نفسه سيجعله يخجل من طعنه فيك، ويحرجه أمام الناس وأمام نفسه
إذا كان صوتُ العودِ (صوت الصادر عن ضرب أوتار العود/بربط ألة ايرانية قديمة تشبه العود) جميلاً وواضحاً
فهل يستطيع المُطرب ايجاد عيب للإعتراض عليه؟
الا إذا كان صوت المطرب من الاساس ليس جيدا، وهو دائما حال الحاسد والحاقد على الناس، يرى كل شيء فيهم عيباً

پیشِ یکی از مشایخ گله کردم که: فلان به فَسادِ من گواهی داده است
گفتا: به صَلاحش خجل کن
تو نیکو روِش باش تا بَدسگال
به نقصِ تو گفتن نیابد مَجال
چو آهنگِ بربَط بود مستقیم
کی از دستِ مطرب خورد گوشمال؟
