A pious man passed by a wealthy man who had tightly bound the hands and feet of his slave and was punishing him. The pious man said to the wealthy man: “My son, a creature like yourself, God Almighty has made this slave a prisoner of your rule, and he lives by your grace. Be grateful for the blessings of the Almighty, and do not commit such injustice against him, lest he be better than you on the Day of Resurrection, and you bear the shame and disgrace in his place.
Do not unleash your excessive anger upon a servant.
Do not torment him or hurt his heart.
Even if you bought him for ten dirhams, and he became your slave, you did not create him.
So, how long will this oppressive rule, this arrogance and anger towards the servant(s), continue?” Remember that there is a Lord greater and more powerful than you.
O master, you have slaves like Arslan and Agush (Turkish names, the first meaning lion, and the second meaning gentle).
You are not their master in the true sense of the word, for you too are a slave to God. Do not forget yourself.
They narrated from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: “The greatest regret on the Day of Resurrection will be that a righteous servant is taken to the gate of Paradise, while a wicked master is taken to Hell.”
Do not react with boundless anger, nor take offense at the actions of a servant in your service.
For the Day of Reckoning will be a disgrace for you,
The servant will be free in Paradise, while you will be chained in Hell.
Arabic Translation
مَر تَقيٌ بأحدٍ أرباب النعمِ (غني) حيث كان قد رَبط يَدي ورجلي عَبدٍ له بإحكامٍ ويُعاقبهُ، فقال التَقي للغني: يا بُني، مَخلوقٌ مُثلكَ جَعل ألله عَز وجل هذا العبد أسيراً لحِكمكَ وهو يعيش من فَضلك، فاشكر نعمة الباري تعالى، ولا ترتكب ظلماً مثل هذا بحقهِ، لئلا يَكون في يوم القيامةِ أفضلُ منكَ، وتَحمل أنت الخِزي والعار بدلا منه
لا تفرض غضبكَ المُفرطِ على عبدٍ
ولا تُعذبهُ ولا تُؤذي قَلبه
إن اشتريته بَعشرة دراهمٍ وأصبح عبداً لكَ
ولكن، في الأخر، لم تخلقه أنتَ
فهذا الحُكم الذي تؤذيه به، الغرور والغَضب على العبد/العبادِ إلى متى؟
فتذكر إن هناك رباً أعظم وأقدر منكَ
يا سيداً ولديك عبيدٌ مثل ارسلان واغوش (اسماء تركية، معنى الاول: الاسد، والثاني بمعنى اللطيف)
أنت لست سيداً بمعنى الكلمة عليهم، فأنت عبد كذلك، لله، فلاتنسى نفسك
نُقل عن الرسول الأعظم (محمد) صلى الله عليه وسلم بأنه قال: أكبر حَسرة يوم القيامةِ أن يُؤخذ عَبد صالح إلى باب الجنةِ، وسَيدٌ فاسقٌ إلى جهنم
لاتدفع بغضبٍ بلا حدود، ولا تأخذ على اساءة
صدرت من عبدٍ هو في خدمتكَ
فأن يومَ الحساب سوف يكون فضيحة بالنسبة لك
فسيكون الغلام حُرٌ في الجنة، وأنت مُقيد بالسلاسلِ في النار
Persian text
پارسایی بر یکی از خداوندان نعمت گذر کرد که بندهای را دست و پای استوار بسته عقوبت همیکرد، گفت: ای پسر همچو تو مخلوقی را خدای عز ّو جل اسیر حکم تو گردانیده است و تو را بر وی فضیلت داده شکر نعمت باری تعالی به جای آر و چندین جفا بر وی مپسند، نباید که فردای قیامت به از تو باشد و شرمساری بری
بر بنده مگیر خشم بسیار
جورش مکن و دلش میازار
او را تو به ده درم خریدی
آخر نه به قدرت آفریدی
این حکم و غرور و خشم تا چند
هست از تو بزرگتر خداوند
ای خواجهٔ ارسلان و آغوش
فرمانده خود مکن فراموش
در خبر است از خواجهٔ عالم صلی الله علیه و سلم که گفت: بزرگترین حسرتی روز قیامت آن بود که یکی بندهٔ صالح را به بهشت برند و خواجهٔ فاسق را به دوزخ
بر غلامی که طوع خدمت توست
خشم بیحد مران و طیره مگیر
که فضیحت بود به روز شمار
بنده آزاد و خواجه در زنجیر
