The rich miser and his sick son

A wealthy but miserly man had a sick son.

A group of kind people who loved this rich man told him: “It would be best for you to complete the recitation of the Quran (read all its verses and chapters) for your sick son, or to offer a sacrifice in his place (to ward off the illness, like the story of Abraham when he sacrificed a ram as a ransom in gratitude to God).” He thought for a moment and said: “The neglected Quran is better (I will read the Quran; it is close to me) than offering a sacrifice for him, as the flock (cattle and sheep) is far from us now.” (He truly did not want to offer a sacrifice; he chose to read the Quran because it was free and without cost.)

A kind-hearted/wise person overheard this and said: “This rich man chose to complete the recitation of the Quran with his tongue only, and he does not want to spend his gold/money because it is dear to his heart.”

“How unfortunate is the neck that bows in obedience
If only the matter were accompanied by giving!”

(Meaning, when the time comes to ask for help from the rich man, he goes to obey.) (God is merely an image, so they can avoid giving to the poor.)

If they got a Durham, they will cling like donkeys in the mud
And if you ask them for something, they’ll recite Surah Al-Fatihah a hundred times (to avoid giving anything).

Arabic Translation

كانَ لغَنيٍ بَخيلٍ ابنٌ مَريضٌ

ثُلةٌ من الطيبينِ الذي يُحبون هذا الغني، قالوا له: من المصلحةِ أن تَختم القُرآن (تقرأ جميع أياته وسورهِ) من أجل ابنك المريض، أو تقدم فداءا عوضا عنه (لدفع بلاء المرض، كقصة ابراهيم عندما ذبح كبشا كفداء شكرا لله)، فتفكر قليلاً وقال: المُصحف المَهجور أفضل (سوف أقرأ القرأن، هو قريب علي)، من تقديم فداء من أجلهِ، فالقطيع (الماشية والاغنام ) بعيدة عنا الان (هو في الحقيقة لا يريد تقديم قربان، أختار قراءة القرأن، لأنها مجانية بدون مقابل)

سَمع صاحب قلب طيب/حكيم فقال: أختار هذا الغنَي ختم القرآن بواسطة اللسان فقط، والذهب/أمواله لايريد أن ينفقها، لأنها حُب روحه

يا للأسف على الرقبة التي تنحني للطاعةِ
لو كان الأمر مصحوباً بالبذل (الاعطاء)

(يعني عندما يأتي وقت طلب المساعدة من الغني، يذهب لطاعة ألله كصورة فقط، كي يهرب من البذل للفقراء)

بدرهمٍ يلتصقونَ كالحمارِ في الطينِ
وأن طلبت منهم شيئا، سيقرأوا سورة الحمد مئة مرة (كي يبتعدوا عن اعطاء اي شيء)

توانگری بخیل را پسری رنجور بود

نیکخواهان گفتندش: مصلحت آن است که ختم قرآنی کنی از بهر وی یا بذل قربانی، لختی به اندیشه فرو رفت و گفت: مصحف مهجور اولیتر است که گله دور

صاحبدلی بشنید و گفت: ختمش به علت آن اختیار آمد که قرآن بر سر زبان است و زر در میان جان

دریغا گردن طاعت نهادن
گرش همراه بودی دست دادن

به دیناری چو خر در گل بمانند
ور الحمدی بخواهی صد بخوانند
