O raven of separation (*raven of ill fortune), would that the distance between us were as vast as the distance between the east and the west
Every time we rise in the morning and see your face
We wish that the day would pass peacefully until evening
A star of ill fortune like you is one whose company we must endure
But now, where in this world could someone like you be found?
Even more astonishing, the crow, from being near the parrot, reached the point of near-death (he could no longer bear to be with the parrot), and boredom became unbearable. He said, “There is no power nor strength except with God,” and from the turning of time, he groaned and rubbed his hands together in despair (the word “al-taghaban” means feeling a profound sense of loss or injustice, and it is one of the names of the Day of Judgment). He said to himself, “What bad luck and even worse omen, and these fickle days! My prestigious presence is to be always keep company with a crow (like myself) on the wall of a garden”
The pious man deserves enough imprisonment, not to be in the stable of the rabble.
(Meaning, the pious man doesn’t deserve all this, imprisonment with the rabble?)
Yes, what did I do in my life to deserve this punishment of associating with this fool, arrogant, incompatible creature? Is the stubborn (selfish) person in this case destined for imprisonment?
No one even approaches a wall
On which your image is painted
And if you have a place in Paradise
The others will choose Hell
I mentioned this proverb so you may know that just as the learned man hates the ignorant a hundredfold, the ignorant man hates the learned man many times over
An ascetic was listening to the talk of a rabble when one of them said, “This person is from Balkh/Afghanistan now.”
If you are tired of us, then do not disturb our peace (do not spoil our gathering with your bad behavior)
For your presence among us has harmed our gathering
A gathering where there are like various kinds of roses, one connected to the other
And you are like dry firewood that has grown among us
You have become like a headwind (a strong wind), like bitter cold, like snow that never ceases to accumulate, like frozen ice that does not break
Arabic Translation
حبسوا ببغاءاً مع غرابٍ (الغراب هنا يكون لونه ابيض واسود، وليس اسود بالكامل) في قفصٍ، فكان الببغاء يَتحمّل مُعاناة كَبيرة من رُؤية قُبح شَكلهِ (هذا وصفٌ وليس إساءة للحيوانِ، الكُل خَلقهم الله)، فكان يُردد دائماً: ما هذا الوَجه المكروه، الشكل المَبغوض، المَنظر المَلعون والصَورة (الهَيأة) الغير المُناسِبة؟ یا غُرابَالْبَیْنِ (*غراب الحظ السيء)، یا لَیْتَ بَیْنی و بَیْنَكَ، (كَـ) بُعْدَ المَشْرِقَیْنِ
كُل مَرة عَندما ننهض في الصباح ونرى وجهكَ
نتمنى في ذلك الصباح أن يمر اليوم بسلامٍ الى المساءِ
نَجمُ سُوء الحظِ مِثلكَ يجب أن نتحمل صحبته
ولكن الان، شبيها لكَ، أين يمكن أن يكون (يوجد)، في هذا العالم؟
الأعجب من ذلكَ، إن الغراب من مجاورة الببغاء، وَصلت رُوحه للفناءِ (لم يعد يطيق البقاء مع الببغاء)، ووصل المَلل به حداً لايُطاق، ويقول: لاحَول ولا قُوة إلا بالله، ومن دوران الزمن يَئنُ، ويَفرك يدي الخسارةِ (التغابن يعني الشعور بالخسارة أو الغُبن الشديد، وهو اسم من أسماء يوم القيامة) بعضهما على بعض: ما هذا الحظ السيء والفأل الأسفل منه، والأيام المَتقلبة تلك، فقدري يَليق به أن أسايرَ دائماً غُرابٍ (مثلي) على جدارِ حديقةٍ (سوية)
فالتَقيُ يَكفيه السِجن بهذا القَدرِ
لا أن يكون كذلك في إسطبلِ الرعاعِ
(بمعنى لايستحق التقي كل هذا، سجن ومع رعاع؟)
نعم، فماذا فَعلتُ في حياتي، حتى أوصلني الدهر لهذه العقوبة في مُصاحبةِ هذا الأحمق، المُتكبر، غير المُتوافق (غير المتجانسِ)، العَنيد (أناني)، في هذا الرابطِ مُبتلى بالحبسِ؟
لا يقترب أحدٌ حتى بجوارِ جدارٍ
رُسمت عليه صورتكَ
وإن كان لكَ مَكانٌ في الجنةِ
فالآخرون سوف يختارون الجَحيم
أوردت هذا المَثل لتَعلموا بأنه كَما يَكره العالمُ، الجاهلَ، بمائةَ ضعفٍ، فالجاهل يَكره العالِم بأضعافٍ
زَاهدٌ كان يَسَتمع لحديثِ رعاعٍ
فقال أحدٌ منهم “هذا الشخص الذي هو من بلخ/أفغانستان حالياً”
إن مَللت منا، فلا تعكر صفونا (لاتخرب علينا مجلسنا بسوء تصرفاتك)
فأن وجودكَ بيننا أضر بمجلسنا
مجمعٌ فيه مثل أنواع الورودِ بضعها ببعض متصلةٍ
وأنت عبارة عن حطبٍ جافٍ نبتَ بيننا
أصبحت مثل الريح المعاكسة (الشديدة)، وكالبرد القارس
وكالثلج الذي لا ينفك يتكاثر، وكالجليد المُتجمد الذي لا ينكسر

طوطیی با زاغ در قفس کردند و از قُبحِ مشاهدهٔ او مُجاهده میبرد و میگفت: این چه طَلعتِ مَکروه است و هَیْأتِ مَمقوت و مَنظرِ ملعون و شمایلِ ناموزون؟ یا غُرابَالْبَیْنِ، یا لَیْتَ بَیْنی و بَیْنَکَ بُعْدَ المَشْرِقَیْنِ
عَلیالصَّباح به رویِ تو هر که برخیزد
صباحِ روزِ سلامت بر او مَسا باشد
بد اختری چو تو در صحبتِ تو بایستی
ولی چنین که تویی، در جهان کجا باشد؟
عجب آن که غُراب از مجاورتِ طوطی هم به جان آمده بود و ملول شده، لاحولکنان از گردشِ گیتی همینالید و دستهایِ تَغابُن بر یکدگر همی مالید که: این چه بختِ نگون است و طالعِ دُون و ایّامِ بوقلمون، لایق قدرِ من آنستی که با زاغی به دیوارِ باغی بر خرامان همی رفتمی
پارسا را بس این قدر زندان
که بود هم طویلهٔ رندان
بلی، تا چه کردم که روزگارم به عقوبتِ آن در سِلکِ صحبتِ چنین ابلهی، خودرای، ناجنس، خیره درای، به چنین بند بلا مبتلا گردانیده است؟
کس نیاید به پایِ دیواری
که بر آن صورتت نگار کنند
گر تو را در بهشت باشد جای
دیگران دوزخ اختیار کنند
این ضربالمثل بدان آوردم تا بدانی که صدچندان که دانا را از نادان نفرت است، نادان را از دانا وحشت است
زاهدی در سَماعِ رندان بود
زآن میان گفت شاهدی بلخی
گر ملولی ز ما، تُرُش منشین
که تو هم در میانِ ما تلخی
جمعی چو گل و لاله به هم پیوسته
تو هیزمِ خشک در میانی رَسْتَه
چون باد مخالف و چو سرما ناخوش
چون برف نشستهایّ و چون یخ بسته
