It is written in the Gospel: “O son of Adam, if I make you rich (here God is speaking to His servant), wealth will distract you from Me (wealth will divert you from My worship); and if I make you poor, your heart will shrink with sorrow. So when will you find a way for your tongue to taste the sweetness of remembering God, and to hasten to obey and worship Him?”
Sometimes pride overcomes you in times of ease (when you have many blessings), and sometimes worry overwhelms you in times of hardship (when you find nothing to satisfy your hunger, and you grieve and despair).
So you are between ease and hardship; this is your state.
You don’t know when to empty your heart for God and forget yourself.
Arabic Translation
وَردَ في الإنجيلِ: يا ابن آدم، إن أَغنيتُكَ (*هنا الله يتحدث لعبدهِ) اشغلكَ المَال عَني (المال الهاكَ عن عبادتي)، وإن أفقرتُكَ أنكمشَ قلبُك بالحزنِ، فمتى تجدُ طريقا يُمسي فيه لسانكَ متذوقاً لحلاوة ذكر ألله، وتسرع في طاعتهِ وعبادتهِ؟
فتارةً يَغلبك الغُرورُ في الرخاءِ (عندما يكون لديك أنعام كثيرة)
وتَارةً يُنهككَ الهَمُّ في الشدةِ (عندما لا تجد ما يَسد جوعك فتحزن وتغتم)
فأنت ما بين السراء والضراء، هذا حالكَ
لاتعرف متى تُفرغُ قلبكَ من أجل ألله وتَنسى نفسَك

در انجیل آمده است که ای فرزند آدم! گر توانگری دهمت، مشتغل شوی به مال از من و گر درویش کنمت، تنگدل نشینی، پس حلاوت ذکر من کجا دریابی و به عبادت من کی شتابی؟
گه اندر نعمتی مغرور و غافل
گه اندر تنگدستی خسته و ریش
چو در سرا و ضرّا حالت این است
ندانم کی به حق پردازی از خویش
