A Fake Worshipper

A king asking for a well-known worshipper to come and meet him, and the worshipper thought long and hard: “I will swallow a medicine that will weaken me, perhaps the king will be more merciful towards me.”

It is said that he has drunk a poison (instead of the medicine he thought would weaken him) and died.

That which I saw, all kernel (outwardly) like a pistachio,
was originally (in reality) layers of peel, like an onion (no inner meaning, only outer peel)
How many an ascetic appears ascetic before people,
but his back is to the qibla during prayer
If a servant calls himself (a true servant of God) in prayer
then he must not call upon other, only call his God

Saeb Tabrizi says:

Do not be deceived by the appearance of an ascetic because of his turban,
this turban is merely an empty dome, in which sound echoes, without meaning or significance.

Arabic Translation

أرسل الملكُ في طلبِ عابدٍ معروف، فَفَكَّرَ الْعَابِدُ مَلياً: آبتلعُ دَوَاءً يُضْعِفُنِي لَعَلَّ الملكُ يَزْدَادُ عَطْفُهُ عَلَيَّ

وَيُقَالُ إِنَّهُ شربَ سَمًّا (بدلا من الدواء الذي كان يَعتقد بأنهُ يُضعفهُ) فَمَاتَ

ذَلِكَ الَّذِي رَأَيْتُهُ كَالْفِسْتَقِ كُلُّهُ لُبٌّ (ظاهراً)
كَانَ بالأصلِ (هو في الحقيقة عبارة عن) طَبَقَاتٍ مِنَ الْقِشْرِ كَالْبَصَلِ (لايوجد معنى داخلي فقط قشر من الخارج)
كَمْ مِنْ زَاهِدٍ يبدو عليه الزهدِ أمام الخلقِ
لكن ظهره باتجاه الْقِبْلَةِ اثناء الصلاةِ
إذا دعا العبد نفسه (عبداً لله حقاً) في الصلاة
فيجب عليه أن لا يدعو لغير أللهِ

صائب التبريزي يقول

لاتنخدع بمظهر الزاهد من خلال عمامته
فهذه العمامة عبارة عن قبة فارغة، يتردد فيها الصوت، بلا معنى ولا مغزى

عابدی را پادشاهی طلب کرد
اندیشید که دارویی بخورم تا ضعیف شوم، مگر اعتقادی که دارد در حقِّ من زیادت کند
آورده‌اند که داروی قاتل بخورد و بمرد

آن که چون پسته دیدمش همه مغز
پوست بر پوست بود همچو پیاز
پارسایانِ رویْ در مخلوق
پشت بر قبله، می‌کنند نماز
چون بنده خدایِ خویش خوانَد
باید که به جز خدا نداند

صائب تبریزی می‌گوید

مخور صائب فریب فضل از عمامه‌ی زاهد
که در گنبد ز بی‌مغزی صدا بسیار می‌پیچد
