Red Tulip and the Princess

The Prince

You smiled at me
and you did not know
with what trembling I picked the red tulip from the king’s garden.
The gardener of the king, ran after me.
He saw the tulip in your hand.
His eyes were full of anger.
The red tulip fell from your fingers onto the dust, then, suddenly,
you left.

And still the color of that tulip and the sound of your steps
burn in my memory.
Why did our small garden have no red tulips?

The Princess

I smiled because I knew
how afraid you were when you picked that red flower!
My father, saw you, and told the gardener to bar you from reaching the garden!
You did not know, I’m the only favorite daughter.

I smiled to answer your love.
But the pain in your eyes made my hands shake.
The red tulip fell.

My heart said: Leave,
so I would not keep the memory of your tears.
I left.

The red color still hurts me.
Why did our garden have tulips after all?

The Father (the King)

I was not looking for a flower taking from the garden of mine,
but because I feared for my daughter.

I saw the red tulip in her hand
and I understood too late:
you (the prince) had not stolen a flower —
you had given her your burning heart.

Her heart fell to the ground, the same moment, and,
her sad face still looks at me, with anger!
I asked my self, why our garden had been full of red tulips?

Red Tulip (2)

The Red Tulip

I was the messenger of a love that was too strong.
I wanted to join two hearts with my red color.
Instead, I fell on the dust
and became the reason they were separated.

It was never my fault.
Fear and silence broke the gift.
I faded,
but my color still asks:
Why do people destroy the most beautiful offerings?
