An ignorant man developed an eye ailment and went to a veterinarian for medicine. The veterinarian mistakenly applied the same medication he used on animals to the man’s eyes, causing him to go blind.
The case was taken to a judge, who ruled that the man was not entitled to compensation (*and perhaps the veterinarian would not be punished).
The implication is: if the ignorant man hadn’t been so foolish, he wouldn’t have gone to the veterinarian in the first place.
The point of this story is that anyone who makes a decision about something untested and significant, and then regrets it, will be considered by wise people to be acting out of “poor judgment/a wrong decision/ignorance.” (Meaning, only an ignorant person would commit such an act.)
A wise and discerning person would not entrust a serious (significant) task to an ignorant person.
Even a weaver of reeds and papyrus, even if he is a weaver (in the sense of weaving)
He cannot be employed in a weaving factory that uses silk.
Arabic Translation
نشأ لدى رجل جاهل ألم في العينِ، فَذهب إلى بيطريٍ من أجل الدواءِ، وَضع البيطريُ ما يَستخدمهُ في عيونِ الحيواناتِ في عيني هذا الشخص الجاهل، فأصبح أعمى
فحملوا (ذهبوا لعرض الأمر للقاضي) القَضية إلى القاضي فقال: لا تَعويض للرجلِ (*وربما لا عقاب على الطبيب البيطري)، فلو لم يكن هذا الشخص الجاهلُ (حماراً) لما ذَهب إلى البيطري
والمَقصودُ من هذا الكلامِ، بأنه حتى تَعلم أنَ كلُ مَن يتخذ قراراً بأمرٍ غير مُجرب وعمل كبير، ومعه نَدمٌ، فسيكون مثل هذا العمل “سوء رأي/أتخذ قَرار خاطيء/جاهلٌ” عند العقلاءِ
(*يعني يرتكب هذا الفعل فقط الجاهل)
لا يُنصِّب العاقل، حَصيف الرأي
الجاهلَ، لأعمالٍ خَطيرةٍ (كبيرة)
حائك الحَصير (من القصب والبردي)، وإن كان حَائكاً (بالمعنى العام)
لايُمكن أن يُوظفَ في مَعمل حياكة يستخدم الحرير

مردکی را چشم درد خاست، پیش بیطار رفت که دوا کن. بیطار از آنچه در چشم چارپای میکند در دیده او کشید و کور شد. حکومت به داور بردند گفت بر او هیچ تاوان نیست. اگر این خر نبودی، پیش بیطار نرفتی
مقصود از این سخن آن است تا بدانی که هر آن که ناآزموده را کار بزرگ فرماید با آن که ندامت برد به نزدیک خردمندان به خفت رای منسوب گردد
ندهد هوشمند روشنرای
به فرومایه کارهای خطیر
بوریاباف اگر چه بافندهست
نبرندش به کارگاه حریر
