When speaking between two enemies, say things that, should they become friends, you won’t be ashamed of what you said.
A conflict between two people is like a fire. The malicious gossip who carries the kindling will be burned by it, because of the gossip and lies each side spreads to increase the conflict and enmity.
And when the two parties reconcile, the gossipmonger remains in the middle, like a blind man, miserable and ashamed of himself.
Igniting a conflict between two people is unwise. The person who fans the flames will be consumed by them.
When speaking with friends, speak calmly and gently, so that the lurking enemy doesn’t overhear your conversation.
When you speak, even if you’re alone in front of a wall, be careful, for there might be someone eavesdropping behind the wall.
Arabic Translation
عندما تَتحدث بكلامٍ بين عَدوين، فَقل كَلاما بَحيث إن أصبحا صَديقين لا تَخجل مما قُلت
الحَرب/الخِصام بين شخصين كالنار
والنمام الشقي الذي يَحمل الحَطب (سوف تحرقه هذه النار، بسبب النميمة والكذب لكل طرف لزيادة الخصام والعدواة)
وعندما يتصالح الطرفين (هذا وذاك)
يبقى هو في الوسط كالأعمى شِقيٌ وخجلٌ من نفسهِ
إشعال النار/الخصام بين إثنين ليس من الحكمةِ
والإنسان الذي يزيد من شدةِ النارِ/الخصامِ، سيحترق بها
عندما تتحدث مع الأصدقاء، تكلم بهدوءٍ ولطف
حتى لا تسمع اذن العدو المُتربص ما يجري ما بينكم من نقاشٍ
عندما تتحدث بأي حديثٍ، حتى لو أمام جدارٍ (لا يوجد أحد)، كن على حذرٍ
فربما يوجد خلف الجدارِ من يتنصتُ عليكَ

سخن میان دو دشمن چنان گوی که گر دوست گردند شرم زده نشوی
میان دو کس جنگ چون آتش است
سخن چین بدبخت هیزم کش است
کنند این و آن خوش دگرباره دل
وی اندر میان کوربخت و خجل
میان دو تن آتش افروختن
نه عقل است و خود در میان سوختن
در سخن با دوستان آهسته باش
تا ندارد دشمن خونخوار گوش
پیش دیوار آنچه گویی هوش دار
تا نباشد در پس دیوار گوش
