One of the Persian kings sent a skilled physician to serve the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
He stayed a year in the land of the Arabs, and no one came to him with a medical condition, nor did anyone seek his treatment.
He came to the Prophet and complained: “They sent this servant (referring to the physician himself) to serve the Prophet’s companions and treat them, and during this time I have stayed, no one has come for me to treat, according to the established practice that appointed to me!”
The Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, said: This clan/tribe has a specific way of eating: they do not eat until they are overcome by the desire for food, and they leave the food while the desire for it remains (they do not eat to the point of satiety).
The wise man said: This is the reason for health. So he kissed the ground before the Prophet (he departed respectfully) and left.
The wise man begins to speak (if speaking is necessary)
Or he extends his finger towards the morsel (if eating) when he was hungry
So that nothing undesirable might happen, such as not speaking, which is a necessary thing
And so that no harm might befall the body due to its need for food
Therefore, his wisdom lay in his speech
And his eating brought health

أَرْسَلَ أَحَدُ مُلُوكِ الْعَجَمِ طَبِيبًا حَاذِقًا لِخِدْمَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
مكثَ سَنَةً فِي دِيَارِ الْعَرَبِ، وَلَمْ يَأْتِ أَحَدٌ بِحَالَةٍ إِلَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَطْلُبْ أَحَدٌ عِلَاجًا مِنْهُ
جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ وَشَكَا: أَرْسَلُوا هَذَا الْعَبْدَ (يقصد الطبيب نفسه في خدمة أصحاب النبي) لِعِلَاجِ الْأَصْحَابِ، وَفِي هَذِهِ الْمُدَّةِ التي مكثت فيها، لَمْ يَأتي أَحَدٌ حتى أقوم بمعالجتهِ، وفقاً للعملِ الْمُعَيَّنَ لِي
قَالَ الرَّسُولُ عَلَيْهِ الصلاة والسلام: هَذِهِ العشيرة/القبيلة لَهَا طَرِيقَةٌ معينة في الأكلِ: لَا يَأْكُلُونَ حَتَّى تغلب عليهم الرغبة في الطعامِ، وَيَتْرُكُونَ الطَّعَامَ وَالرغبة أليهِ بَاقِيَةٌ بَعْدُ (لا يأكلوا حَد الشَبع)
قَالَ الْحَكِيمُ: هَذَا هو سَبَبُ الصِّحَّةِ، فقَبَّلَ الْأَرْضَ أمام النبي (أنصرف باحترامٍ) وَانْصَرَفَ
يَبْدَأُ الْحَكِيمُ بِالْكَلَامِ (إذا كان للكلام ضرورة)
أَوْ يَمُدُّ إِصْبَعَهُ نَحْوَ اللُّقْمَةِ (إذا كان للأكل وقته، جائع)
حتى لايَحْدُثُ ما لا يحمد، مِنْ عَدَمِ التحدث، وهو أمر مستحق
ولا يَحْدُثُ ضَرَرٌ لِلجسم بسبب حاجته للأكل
لَذَا كانت حِكْمَتُهُ فِي كَلَامِهِ
وَأَكْلُهُ يَجْلِبُ الصِّحَّةَ
Persian text
يکی از ملوکِ عَجَم طبیبی حاذق به خدمتِ مصطفی، صلّی اللهُ عَلَیْهِ و سَلَّمَ، فرستاد
سالی در دیارِ عرب بود و کسی تَجْرِبه پیشِ او نیاورد و معالجه از وی درنخواست
پیشِ پیغمبر آمد و گله کرد که: مر این بنده را برای معالجتِ اصحاب فرستادهاند و در این مدّت کسی التفاتی نکرد تا خدمتی که بر بنده معیَّن است، به جای آوَرَد
رسول، علیهالسّلام، گفت: این طایفه را طریقتی است که تا اشتها غالب نشود، نخورند و هنوز اشتها باقی بُوَد که دست از طعام بدارند
حکیم گفت: این است موجبِ تندرستی، زمین ببوسید و برَفت
سخن آن گه کُنَد حکیم آغاز
یا سرانگشت سویِ لقمه، دراز
که ز ناگفتنش خلل زاید
یا ز ناخوردنش به جان آید
لاجَرَم حکمتش بوَد، گفتار
خوردنش تندرستی آرَد بار
