The king and the Wise

In the biography of Ardashir Babakan (founder of the Sasanian Empire), it is said that he asked an Arab sage: “How much food should one eat in a day?”

The sage replied: “One hundred dirhams is sufficient.”

The king then asked: “What strength does this amount provide?”

He said: This amount sustains you, and anything beyond that you bear. Meaning, this amount of food keeps you on your feet, and anything you eat beyond that, you bear.

Eating is for sustenance and remembrance,

and you believe that life is for the sake of eating.
