The paths of reason are nothing but twisting labyrinths, where the seeker becomes increasingly bewildered the deeper he delves into the search for proof. But in the realm of the gnostics, nothing exists but God in the kingdom of truth.
This secret may be revealed to those who have grasped the inner nature of things, but those who rely on logic and analogy will find it unbearable and will object, saying: If this is so, then what is the purpose of these heavens and earth? And what is the nature of humankind, beasts, and livestock that fill the horizons?
You have asked a pertinent question, O wise one, so listen to the answer, perhaps it will align with your insight.
All that you see—desert and plain, sea, mountain and celestial body, jinn, humans, and angels, whether evil or good—
Is far too insignificant to be called “existence” when compared to the existence of the Truth (God), Glory be to Him.
The sea may seem vast in your eyes when its waves crash, and you may see the sun towering high in the sky.
But how can those who dwell on appearances comprehend what those who possess true knowledge know?
They inhabit a realm where sensory perceptions are not balanced. In the presence of that Most Holy Being, the sun is but an unseen speck of dust, and the seven seas but a drop in a boundless ocean.
Whenever the Sovereign of Glory (God) appears, raising the banner of His manifestation, the entire world shrinks into nothingness, and all existence other than Him vanishes.
This wisdom from Saadi Shirazi in his book, Bustan, means that true existence is confined to the Divine Essence, and that all creation and cosmic phenomena are subordinate and shadowy existences. It is important in the path of mystical conduct because it establishes the concept of “solemn unity” which liberates the servant from attachment to other than God, affirming that the true mystic is the one who sees the hand of the Creator behind every creation, indeed, he sees the Creator and not the creation.

إنَّ مسالك العقلِ ليست سوى متاهاتٍ مُلتوية، يزدادُ السالكُ فيها حيرةً كلما أوغلَ في طلبِ البرهان، أما في مشهدِ العارفين، فلا وجودَ لغيرِ اللهِ في ملكوتِ الحقيقة
قد يُباحُ بهذا السرِّ لمن أدركوا بواطنَ الأشياء، غيرَ أنَّ أصحابَ المنطقِ والقياسِ سيضيقونَ به ذرعاً، وسيعترضون قائلين: إذا كان الأمرُ كذلك، فما بالُ هذه السماواتِ والأرض؟ وما كنهُ البشرِ والوحوشِ والأنعامِ التي تملأُ الآفاق؟
لقد سألتَ سؤالاً وجيهاً أيها اللبيب، فاستمع إلى الجوابِ لعلَّه يوافقُ بصيرتك
إنَّ كلَّ ما تراهُ من بيداءَ و سهل، بحرٍ، جبلٍ وفلك، ومن جنٍ وإنسٍ وملاك، شريرا أم خيرا كان
إنما هم أقلُّ شأناً من أن يُنسبَ إليهم مسمَّى «الوجود» إذا ما قيسوا بوجودِ الحقِّ سبحانه
قد يَعظمُ البحرُ في عينيكَ حين تتلاطمُ أمواجُه، وترى الشمسَ سامقةً في كبدِ السماء
لكن أنى لأهلِ الظواهرِ أن يُدركوا، ما يعرفه أربابُ الحقائق؟
إنهم في عالمٍ لا تستوي فيه الموازينُ الحسية؛ ففي حضرةِ ذلك الوجودِ الأقدس، لا تُعدُّ الشمسُ إلا ذرةَ غبارٍ لا تُرى، ولا البحارُ السبعةُ إلا قطرةً في محيطٍ لا ساحلَ له
فمتى ما بَرَزَ سُلطانُ العزةِ (ألله) رافعاً لواءَ تَجليه، أنزوى العالمُ أجمعُ في طياتِ العدم، وأضمحلَّ كلُّ وجودٍ غيره
هذه الحكمة من سعدي الشيرازي في كتابه بوستان تعني أنَّ الوجودَ الحقيقيَّ منحصرٌ في الذاتِ الإلهية، وأنَّ كافةَ الخلائقِ والمظاهرِ الكونيةِ هي وجوداتٌ تبعيَّةٌ وظليَّة، ولها أهمية في مسارِ السلوكِ العرفاني لأنها ترسخُ مفهومَ “التوحيدِ الصمدي” الذي يحررُ العبدَ من التعلقِ بالأغيار، مؤكدةً أنَّ العارفَ الحقيقيَّ هو من يرى يدَ الصانعِ خلفَ كلِّ مصنوع، بل يرى الصانعَ ولا يرى المصنوع

ره عقل جز پیچ بر پیچ نیست
بر عارفان جز خدا هیچ نیست
توان گفتن این با حقایق شناس
ولی خرده گیرند اهل قیاس
که پس آسمان و زمین چیستند؟
بنی آدم و دام و دد کیستند؟
پسندیده پرسیدی ای هوشمند
بگویم گر آید جوابت پسند
که هامون و دریا و کوه و فلک
پری و آدمیزاد و دیو و ملک
همه هرچه هستند از آن کمترند
که با هستیش نام هستی برند
عظیم است پیش تو دریا به موج
بلند است خورشید تابان به اوج
ولی اهل صورت کجا پی برند
که ارباب معنی به ملکی درند
که گر آفتاب است یک ذره نیست
وگر هفت دریاست یک قطره نیست
چو سلطان عزت علم بر کشد
جهان سر به جیب عدم در کشد
