One day, in the prime of youthful vanity, I mounted a horse and rode a great distance. When evening came, I was utterly exhausted at the foot of a steep hill.
A frail old man, who had come from behind the caravan, said, “Why are you sitting here? This is no place to sleep.”
I replied, “How can I move from here when I can barely walk?”
He said, “Have you not heard what the wise and pure of heart say: ‘Walking slowly and then resting is better than running and quickly becoming tired.’
O you who yearn for home, do not hasten your journey. Take my advice: adhere to the path of work and learn patience.”
(Meaning, haste leads to regret, while patience and deliberation bring a peaceful end.)
The Arabian horse gallops and covers two leagues swiftly, but the camel walks slowly, traversing great distances day and night.
Arabic Translation
يوماً، في ذروة غرور الشبابِ، ركبتُ على ظهرِ حصان وقطعت مسافة كبيرة، و عندما حل المساءً كنت مُرهقاً بشدةٍ، عند أسفل تل شديد الإنحدار
شَيخٌ ضعيف البنية كان قد أتى من خلف القافلةِ، وقال: لماذا تجلس هنا؟ هذا ليس مكاناً للنومِ
قُلت: كَيف أتحركُ من هنا، ولا أقوى على المشي؟
قال: ألم تسمع ما قاله أصحاب القلوب الطيبة/الطاهرة (الحكماء): المَشي (بروية) ومن ثم الراحةِ، أفضل من الركض (الإسراعِ) والتعب بسرعة
يا مَن تَشتاق للمنزلِ، لا تَتعجل المسير
خذ بنصيحتي: ألتزم بطريق العَمل وتَعلم الصَبر
(*يعني في التعجل سوف تحل الندامة، وفي التأني والصبر، سوف تكون النهاية بسلام)
الحصان العربي يَركض ويقطع فرسخين بسرعة
و لكن الجمل يَسير ببطء، ويقطع ليلاً ونهاراً (مسافات كبيرة)

روزی به غرور جوانی سخت رانده بودم و شبانگاه به پای گریوهای سست مانده
پیرمردی ضعیف از پس کاروان همیآمد و گفت: چه نشینی که نه جای خفتن است؟
گفتم: چون روم که نه پای رفتن است؟
گفت: این نشنیدی که صاحبدلان گفتهاند: رفتن و نشستن به که دویدن و گسستن
ای که مشتاق منزلی مشتاب
پند من کار بند و صبر آموز
اسب تازی دو تگ رود به شتاب
و اشتر آهسته میرود شب و روز
