Our prince refrain from taking honey from the people’s hand

Our prince refrain from taking honey from the people’s hand, lest poison lurk in goblets sweet with mead.

It’s more strange—he shuns venom hid in honey shine colour, yet heeds not arrows tipped with sigh’s poison!

Arabic Translation

لا يأخذ أميرنا عَسلاً من يد الشعبِ

خشية أن يختبئ السم في كؤوسٍ حلوةٍ بنكهة العسلِ

الغَريب في الأمر، أنه يَتجنب السُم الكامن في العَسلِ،

لكنه لا يكترث للسهام التي تحمل رُؤوسها سُمّ التنهداتِ

امیر ما عسل از دست خلق می‌نخورد

که زهر در قدح انگبین تواند بود

عجب که در عسل از زهر می‌کند پرهیز

حذر نمی‌کند از تیر آه زهرآلود
