There is no blame upon this fleeting world,
for all that lies within it is but passing wishes.
Above my sorrowfully burning eyelashes,
I write my deepest feelings as beautiful songs.
Whenever I see you, I intensely yearn for purity and the most exquisite loyalty,
and whenever you grow distant, I groan in pain, unable to endure your cold rejection.
O vessels crafted from endless sleeplessness, O driving oars of destiny,
O deep sea whose waves are frowning and hostile, traveling within you has utterly exhausted me!
Every single time we anchor at a harbor,
I say to myself: ‘Perhaps another harbor will bring peace,’
Only to discover that it is forced upon us—a repetitive game played by my cruel fate.
Explaining:
ما على الدنيا عتب: an early philosophical declaration of inner peace and detachment; for this world is not a place of permanence or perfection, so one cannot blame it for its vicissitudes, and blaming it is futile and pointless.
ملتاع الهدب: “The burning” refers to one consumed by the fire of longing and anguish, and “eyelashes” are the lashes of the eye. The image describes the staring eyes and the weary lashes, burned by excessive weeping and prolonged sleeplessness.
أكتب إحساسي أغاني: transforming personal pain and spiritual bleeding into refined, public art; this is the great characteristic of Abadi Al-Jawhar’s school, where he melts with sorrow to compose melodies that heal the hearts of others.
أحن للصِفى: longing and yearning for moments of serenity, pure promises, and loyalty untainted by social impurities and turbidity.
كل ما أبعدتي أون: “I moan” is derived from the word for moaning, the hidden, sorrowful sound that emanates from the chest of the sick or afflicted; it describes the emotional inability to bear the forced estrangement and rejection.
مراكب من سهر: A powerful metaphor comparing long, sleepless nights to vast sea distances, portraying the lover as a lost vessel adrift in the night of exile without a guide.
مجاديف القدر: A simile comparing fate and its inevitable decrees to oars that forcibly steer the ship of life, pushing it in the direction dictated by the unseen, not the lover’s desires.
بحر موجه عبوس: “Frowning” refers to someone whose face displays signs of sullenness, distress, and anger. A brilliant personification and embodiment of the sea (which symbolizes life and its emotional struggles) as an angry adversary whose raging waves batter the weary ships of dreams.
أقول يمكن ميناء ثاني: The ever-renewing and deceptive hope; for every time the ship of the soul approaches the threshold of stability and recovery (the port), the lover imagines that salvation lies at another station, remaining lost on an eternal journey.
لعبه يلعبها زماني: An acknowledgment of the complete human helplessness before the cyclical nature of time and the vicissitudes of life. Where the lover finds himself a mere pawn in a grand game orchestrated by fate against his will (“It’s against our will”)
The song “There’s No Blame on the World” presents the tragedy of existential wandering and complete subjugation to the whims of destiny and time.
However, it elevates individual suffering to a shared, universal theme; the lover no longer blames his partner or the world, but rather accepts with dignity and complete submission the reality that life is merely a game and a series of twists and turns played by time upon humanity against their will (“It’s against our will, a game played by time”)
The constant travel and wandering between ports without finding a safe shore reflects the “emotional limbo” and spiritual thirst that can only be quenched by a gesture of loyalty and warm friendship, which he hopes for from his beloved to extinguish the “fires of his longing and sleeplessness.”
