English Translation

You ask me about my longing and the burning pain of my yearning,

when you already know best what is within me, and the deep confusion of a lover.

You ask me about our passion, our love, and the sweet goodness of our union;

Tell me, in all honesty, isn’t this a strange question to ask? Isn’t it strange, isn’t it strange, this question?

You ask me, when you know best who holds absolute, loving sway over my heart.

You ask me, when you are closer to me than my very eyelids are to my eyes.

You are the most precious thing I have ever hoped for, and the most beautiful thing my eyes have ever beheld.

You are my life, yes, my life, as long as I shall live.

You ask me, as if there could be anyone in existence who holds my passion other than you,

when all the love with you has become completely without boundaries.

You are my entire world, You are my love and my sweet torment, You, and only you, are the very tear of my joy.

Explaining:

بتسأليني: This is a rhetorical question that carries a gentle reproach and affection; the question here is not out of ignorance, but rather a desire from the beloved to hear sweet affirmations of love.

لوعة الأشواق: The burning desire that rages in the heart of the one who yearns, leaving them bewildered and lost.

طيب الوصال: A pure encounter, free from any bitterness, and a beautiful spiritual flow between hearts in harmony.

مو غريب هذا السؤال؟: This is a gentle rhetorical question; for a forest is not questioned about whether it contains trees, and a lovesick lover is not questioned about their yearning because their love has become an obvious and self-evident truth.

مين على حبي يمون: “Yamoun” is a very eloquent Saudi and Gulf expression meaning: the one who has absolute authority, complete right, and dominion over my heart due to their high status and preciousness.

أقرب من جفوني للعيون: A stunning rhetorical image that expresses the pinnacle of attachment and merging; The eyelid is the covering that closes to the eye, protecting it and never separating from it, and the beloved is closer to the lover than this eyelid is to his eyes.

دمعة فرحتي: a brilliant use of tears; for here, tears are not a sign of sadness, but rather an expression of a heart overflowing with joy and profound contentment that words cannot contain, so it overflows in the form of warm tears.

This song embodies the beauty of union and complete emotional security. Unlike songs of separation and sleeplessness, here the lover finds himself in a state of tranquility and spiritual unity with his beloved. He sees his beloved’s question about his feelings as a kind of wondrous paradox (“Isn’t this question strange?”), because she has reached a point of such closeness that she is privy to the stirrings of his heart as an undeniable truth (“Closer than my eyelids to my eyes”). Love here is boundless, transcending all obstacles to declare that the beloved is his entire world, the sole source of his tears of profound joy.
