A dervish whose prayers were answered appeared in Baghdad

A dervish (a Sufi/ascetic man) whose prayers were answered appeared in Baghdad. Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf al-Thaqafi was informed about him, so he summoned him to his court and said to the dervish, “Pray for me with a prayer for good.” The dervish said, “O God, take his soul.”

Al-Hajjaj said, “By God, what kind of prayer is this?!”

He replied, “This is a prayer that contains good for you and for all Muslims.

O you who have the upper hand and harm the rest of creation,
How long will this killing continue in this manner?

What benefit is there for the world if it remains under your rule?
Your death is better for you than harming people.”
