They asked an old man: Why haven’t you married?
He replied: I can’t bear to live with old women.
They said: Take a young girl, for you have the means (perhaps financially and physically) to satisfy her.
He said: Since I am an old man and cannot get along with old women, how can a loving relationship develop between us if she is young? (Meaning, she cannot build a loving relationship with me while she is young; she desires a young man like herself.)
A seventy-year-old man yearns for youth, just as a blind reciter of the Quran longs to have eyes to see clearly.
Strength is what is needed, not gold, for a woman to love you more than ten pounds of meat.
Arabic Translation
قالوا لشيخٍ: لماذا لم تتزوج؟
فقال: لا أطيق العَيشَ مع العجائز
قالوا: أتخذ لكَ فتاة شابة، فإن لديك القدرة (*ربما مالياً وجسديا لإرضاءها)
فقال: إذ أنا شيخ كبير السن لا أستطيع التألف مع العجائز (النساء كبيرات السن)، فكيف تتشكل علاقة مَحبة بيننا وهي شابة (يعني لا تستطيع بناء علاقة محبة معي وهي شابة، ترغب بشابٍ مثلها)؟
شيخ سبعيني (عمره سبعين عاما) يتوق للشبابِ
تماماً كما ترى حُب قارئ القرآن الكفيف في أن يكون له عيوناً يرى بها بشكل جيد
القوة مطلوبة، لا الذهب، بالنسبة للسيدة
لتحبكَ أكثر من عشرة أمنان لحم

پیرمردی را گفتند: چرا زن نکنی؟
گفت: با پیرزنانم عیشی نباشد
گفتند: جوانی بخواه چو مکنت داری
گفت: مرا که پیرم با پیرزنان الفت نیست پس او را که جوان باشد با من که پیرم چه دوستی صورت بندد؟
پِرِ هَفتا ثَله جُونی میکُند
عَشغِ مقری وَ خُیْ بِنی چِشِ رُوشْت
زور باید نه زر که بانو را
گزری دوستتر که ده من گوشت
